Supermodel. Actress. Icon. None other than the elegant Grace Jones could top the bill at St. Olav Festival 2018.
With a show that has gone from success to succes around the world, the Jamaican artist arrives in Trondheim and the Archbishop’s Courtyard shortly after her 70th birthday. When she performed at the Øya festival two years ago, Dagbladet gave her a dice score of 6 and wrote of a Grace Jones in top shape and with a powerful radiance on the stage.
Since 1973 Jones has added funk, reggae, disco and new wave to a melting pot of wonderful pop music. Now at last a Trønder audience will be able to warm itself to the tones of this legendary artist.
Topless, her body painted, on stage she herself almost passes for an artistic installation. This iconic artist started out as a model and had her real breakthrough as Bond girl (or was it Bond baddie?). She has gone her own way in her artistic career, where she has erased the distinction between pop music and performace art.
She has a unqiue way of staying constantly relevant, she still headlines the biggest festivals all over the world and is frequently mentioned as an example for many big artist and artists. Bjørk and Lady Gaga are among the modern pop artists who have a lot to thank Jones for.
It’s perfectly acceptable to expect a quite spectacular experience. For that’s what this will be!
